Bespoked Bristol 2012

This year’s Bespoked Bristol featured and promoted some of the best international talent from independent makers and designers in the bicycle world.

NGB went down on Saturday 24th to check it out.

Filling Brunel’s Old Station to the rafters was more custom fillet brazing, glistening paint and ornate lug work than even Sheldon Brown would have dared dream about.

It is a pleasure to see so many enthusiasts supporting the work of people who pride themselves in producing the such exquisite cycling paraphernalia, it is a must see if you like your bikes – we here at NGB hope it is on next year!

Red Hook Crit 2012

David Trimble’s Red Hook Crit returned this year on the 24th of March in it’s most professional setting to date.

The unsanctioned race in Brooklyn, New York, costs just $35 allowing anyone to take part and pit themselves against some pro riders. 2012′s RHC saw Dan Chabanov (bottom photo, red bike) take 1st place for the 3rd year running, with San Fransico’s Mash rider Rainier Schaefer coming in second.

Wanted to see what my Charge plug would look like wrapped up. Here is the outcome! It took two hours and one Poundland roll of paper. Wrapping the chain was the least fun! but worth it for the photo.

Disk wheel build…

I saw someone riding around in Belgium with a self built disk wheel on the last NoGears trip, which stuck in my mind! Then as luck would have it a Estate agents sign was left outside our flat, and my Sunday afternoon was sorted. I don’t play polo, but I had got it stuck in my head as a challenge so felt the urge to see if I could make one, I’m already turning in to a B&Q dad!. There are loads of videos on youtube etc, but basically cut out a bit of plastic and put it on a wheel, job done. Its super fiddly and can go wrong at any point but as the old man says measure twice cut once. I finished it off with a big vinyl sticker, and was almost tempted to start playing polo.
